Wie der SOE Chef John Smedley über Reddit bekannt gegeben hat, wird darüber nachgedacht, ein neues Abo-Modell einzuführen. Die Grundidee ist, bei einer monatlichen Gebühr von 14,99 Dollar (enstpricht umgerechnet circa 11 Euro), kompletten Zugriff auf alle MMO’s von Sony Online Entertainment zu haben.
Darunter würden also demnach PlanetSide 2, DC Universe Online und weitere, noch nicht erschienene Spiele, wie das angekündigte EverQuest Next, zählen.
Erwähntes Abo-Modell soll allerdings nur auf dem PC umgesetzt werden, wie Smedley bei Reddit bekannt gab.
„We are considering (and are likely going to move forward with) a plan that means if you subscribe to one of our games you are a subscriber to all our games (this applies to PC titles only btw).. all for the current $14.99 a month.“
Gründe, warum das neue System für Playstation 3 und Playstation 4 nicht zum Einsatz kommen wird, liefert Smedley auch. Limitierungen der Konsolen lassen den Einsatz der virtuellen Währung „Station Cash“ offensichtlich nicht zu und verhindern somit Aktionen bezüglich der In-Game-Währung.
“We can’t do the same kind of promotions as easily on the PS3 and PS4,” he explained. “We’re a lot more limited because we can’t use [SOE premium currency] Station Cash on there. So when we have a 3x sale on SC we have to do something different for our console titles. It’s a pain in the neck to deal with this.”
