Ken Kutaragi – Lead Architect der Original PlayStation und ehemaliger CEO von Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. – wird am 19. März im Rahmen der 14th Annual Game Developers Choice Awards eine Auszeichnung für sein Lebenswerk erhalten.
Kutaragi trägt den Spitznamen „Vater der PlayStation“, seine ersten Schritte in der Gaming-Branche machte er aber mit der Entwicklung des SPC700, dem Soundchip der in Nintendo’s SNES verwendet wird. Kutaragi verließ Sony in 2007 und war danach aktiv als CEO von Cyber AI Entertainment Inc. tätig.
Meggan Scavio, General Manager of GDC events, sagte in einer Pressemitteilung: “The PlayStation has become a household name, representing some of the biggest and best gaming experiences of all time. Its success and longevity is a reflection of the insight, craft, technical prowess and hard work of the team led by Kutaragi-san, the father of the PlayStation. We’re honored to have Kutaragi-san present at the event, and heartened to recognize a true visionary that helped bring about an unparalleled era of growth in the industry.”
